For some twenty years now, this French choreographer has been striving to raise the profile of the hip-hop culture she came from on more conventional stages. In Héraclès sur la tête, the break battle champion takes a trip back in time to the origins of hip-hop culture. As in Underdogs (2021), she has devised this piece like a playlist, with a selection of titles playing sounds from US soul, hip-hop and rap, from Marvin Gaye to Killer Mike by way of Public Enemy, Outkast and Gil Scott-Heron. Through their lively and skilful dancing, two B-Boys and two hip-hop dancers take us back over its chronology, recreating the reality of Afro-American youth, including their struggles, their paths to emancipation and the solidarity found in music and dance. It pays homage to the spirit of conciliation and elation found in the roots of hip-hop moves
