She wears down and uses up gestures to question their social and political reach. Anna-Marija Adomaityte, a Lithuanian choreographer now based in Switzerland, explores how bodies can erode the systems of power to which they belong. Workpiece (2021), inspired by her experience working as a waitress in a fast-food chain, stages the body resisting productive gestures, while Pas de deux (2021) disturbs the heteronormative structure of the couple. Her latest piece TikTok-Ready Choreographies (2024) immerses us in the specificities of dances devised for a vertical screen, calling on those principally involved: teenagers from French-speaking Switzerland with whom she created this piece. On stage, they question this way of being in the world where bodies and identities are overexposed and involving their fears and vulnerabilities.
