Between archives, fiction, documentary, autobiography and ritual, Lara Barsacq interweaves paths in a unique way, and brings to light and into dialogue with our era the overlooked women of history. Kassia, hymnographer of the Byzantine empire, who was later canonized, was one of the earliest female composers from the Middle Ages whose musical scores have survived. Her work has inspired the choreographer to create a cultural and temporal crossing, a poetic attempt at interaction with the afterlife.
Like a cross between extras and troubadours, eight performers – dancers and / or singers – probe the duality between divine and demonic, the ways of necromancy and divination, the confluence of the East and the West, the sources of polyphonic art. The stage will be bedecked with fabric and banners, for which the Ateliers Indigo artists have been inspired by medieval or contemporary imagery. A moving landscape for a journey through time, from the distant past to the near future.
