As bodies that move through this world, we are like sponges, constantly absorbing stimuli of all different kinds and forms though our eyes, mouth ,nose, skin, ears, mind. We digest and transmute these streams of information, and expel them back into the world in a new form. This happens mostly unconsciously, but has great impact on how we live and act in the world.
In this workshop Benjamin Vandewalle proposes to work with owning this process more, and exploring how to hack it. Through the body, different ways of perceiving different kinds of input will be investigated to open the possibility of reprogramming our body into different ways of being, seeing and showing up to the world. Benjamin will be bringing in some of his own practices alongside references to other artists with similar yet different practices such as Lygia Clark. A week of trying out and inventing different formats, scores, games, etc. to create an immersive, sensorial experience that we can share with an audience.
Benjamin Vandewalle is a Belgian choreographer and dancer known for his innovative and interdisciplinary approach to dance and performance art. He studied at the Royal Ballet School of Antwerp and later graduated from P.A.R.T.S. (Performing Arts Research and Training Studios) in Brussels. Vandewalle's work often explores the relationship between the audience and the performer, challenging conventional perspectives and engaging viewers in unique ways. His projects frequently incorporate elements of visual art, technology, and architecture, creating immersive experiences that go beyond traditional dance performances.
