A giant jogger, a cardboard house, an electrical panel with legs, and a table mounted on high heels… These are the characters in Miet Warlop’s surrealistic After All Springville. This new version of the show Springville (2010) reasserts the Flemish choreographer and plastic artist’s multi-faceted, playful, political approach. In this tale, the DIY-style scenery summons up childlike reveries with gags that are as cartoonish as they are dissonant. The blunders and catastrophes come thick and fast : an electrocution, then a shootout and an explosion of giant tubes. Beneath its apparent innocence, After All Springville presents an acerbic vision of the world, made up of dramas, failed relationships, communication breakdowns, violence and mutilation. As if to underline the complexity of our relations with our habitat and environment ?
