The initial spark for this project was a 2023 meeting between ZOO and Platform-K, a Ghent association that provides contemporary dance training for artists with disabilities. ZOO contributed its improvisation tools designed to enrich the vocabulary of movement and encourage spontaneous and complex interactions with the other dancers, with the space, or with the music. From this collaboration arose a desire to deepen the experience. The creative project derives from the desires of the Platform-K performers and, deploying ZOO’s non-hierarchical methods, generates a common language for the intersection of trajectories and sensibilities. The music, selected for its emotional resonance with the performers, becomes a motor. It inspires the movements, structures the space, underpins the drama like a film’s soundtrack. This work is not merely intended to give visibility to bodies that are all too often excluded from the stage, but enables them to transform our conception of creation, otherness and presence.
