After L’Opéra du villageois, which dealt with colonialism, the theft of artworks and the issue of their restitution, Zora Snake tirelessly deciphers, plays upon, and plays against relations of domination. Revolt and the search for justice are the life-blood of his dance performance. It was in the heart of the equatorial forest that this Combat des lianes took root. The choreographer and his performers have immersed themselves in the polyphonic rhythms and movements of the Baka communities, threatened with obliteration by the ravages of capitalism.
An organic fresco takes shape, created by seven dancers and musicians – seven being the sacred number that the Koungang peoples of western Cameroon associate with solidary and urgency. Shamanic pulsations in the form of electro beats, the musical juxtapositions embrace the imaginary world of creepers to trace back through discrimination, struggle and hope, in this adventure of initiation, this ritual of healing.
