Urban dance, hip-hop and clubbing are coming to La Raffinerie during Fancy Legs, a series of evening events and workshops for people to discover, learn and share the styles and steps circulating away from mainstream stages. The project is a collaboration between Charleroi danse, Freestyle Lab and Milø Slayers.
Up-and-coming or underground, the dances found in street culture, clubs or on the internet are often a long way away from what’s happening on more mainstream stages. In joining forces with Freestyle Lab and Milø Slayers, the Charleroi danse choreographic centre wanted to open its doors to these communities of artists who are largely unfamiliar to the general public. Fancy Legs shines a spotlight on the huge creativity and virtuosity of these artists and their inventiveness in response to today’s musical, political and technological evolutions. Adopting an open and friendly approach, the evening events are designed to bring together dancers and lovers of movement, sounds and celebrations. Each jam convenes specialists of the style being showcased, DJs, hosts and guests. Beforehand there will be tutorials and messages sent out on social networks to convey and teach a few signature steps. The day before the evening event at La Raffinerie, there will also be an opportunity to pick up the techniques of the trend, explore the moves of different types of dance and have a bit of a warm up!
