Do you know about Carmen Amaya ? This famous Catalan flamenco dancer made her mark in the mid 20th century with her revolutionary style, breaking with the codes of flamenco, notably by dancing in trousers. The choreographer Aina Alegre, a native of Barcelona who now lives in France, evokes the powerful free spirit of this legendary figure, with seven dancers performing an eruptive dance, drumming on the floor with their feet. The choreographic writing, which evokes both traditional flamenco moves and the atmosphere of a nightclub, draws directly from the textual archive documents and videos of Amaya, and injects fantasy and reinterpretation. Illuminated by flashes of white and red light, the performers invoke the ghost of the flamenco dancer, inhabited by her electrifying energy and reactivating with contemporary movements the bodies of the past.
