She deploys ballets in half-light or even in darkness, where fascinating spectres move and shift. For over twenty years, Nacera Belaza has sculpted darkness using repetitive virtuoso movements. Her latest creation does not feature a large group. She finds herself face to face with a radiant star, actor Valérie Dréville, known for her roles in the plays of Claude Régy and Antoine Vitez. Both imbued with the same radical approach, they seek to bring their respective arts, dance and theatre, head to head, merging them in the performance venue. More than an onstage encounter, for the actor who has already performed for the choreographer Jérôme Bel, it constitutes a further move towards dance, and for the dancer it’s an experiment with words. A leap into the void that could well call into question their habitual routines.
