A contemporary opera, a plastic art installation, a dance work, and a re-writing of the Thousand and One Nights. In his show of this name, Sorour Darabi, a dancer and interdisciplinary artist of Iranian descent, delves into the famous collection of stories with Shéhérazade as their heroine. Out of the night emerge eight dancing and singing performers. Around bodies undulating with sensuality a fascinating space appears, fashioned from suspended ice sculptures and dense layers of sound, which are produced live. Have trans bodies already existed in opera ? what if Shéhérazade was queer ? a bastion of resistance to the white cis-heteronormative hegemony is constructed, countering the erasure of homosexual and trans bodies from history. The audience wanders around this access area, this fertile ground in which new forms of love, desire and tenderness can flourish.
