Setting everybody against every body, the choreographic language of Mohamed Toukabri embraces the contradictions that reside in him, pursue him and form him. Born in Tunis, settled in Brussels, trained at the P.A.R.T.S., the young performer seeks to shatter the remaining hierarchy separating institutionalized dance from street dance. To decolonize the imagination, to de-hierarchize the languages of the body, to reconcile vulnerability and virtuosity. To enable, and even to embody, the dialogue between intimate stories and collective history.
“For me, dancing means accepting the responsibility of questioning, of connecting, of not forgetting that each movement carries a memory", he declared as a prelude to the creation of his work at the 2025 Festival d’Avignon. The sampling on the soundtrack also plays its part in this spirit : recomposing the present from the contents of the past.
