With Nimble, Not Standing has written a contemporary ballet infused by a continuous group rhythm. On the stage, the space is divided up into a grid with coloured masking tape, a visual partition through which nine dancers trace and reconfigure their paths. Fascinated by the foot work of boxers, Alexander Vantournhout turns our focus onto the lower part of the body. Leaning into strikes, slides, syncopation. The group pulsates, fragments, reforms. The music, created live by the performers, blends loops and polyrhythms. Nimble becomes a force field in which movement becomes music.
“Avant-première” (preview) residencies offer technical support and assistance with dissemination as the creative process culminates. An open public presentation for the neighbourhood and for professionals. Upon invitation.
