“My art is never far removed from my existence, my suffering, my joys”, revealed Alexandre Paulikevitch in 2022. In this work, war intrudes without respite, both figuratively and in its most brutal reality: bombings, blasts, devastation. How to preserve what remains of our mental health ? The dancer-performer examines this question in anticipation of a final confrontation between Eros and Thanatos.
Sex in the face of death, desire as a counterpoint to obliteration, poetry in response to horror, art as an escape route, dance as the final refuge.
Between submission and resistance, in response to the collective memory, movement takes shape. “Art becomes the final sanctuary. Dance, the final safe haven. Poetry, a light shining in the darkness.”
