One rolls a cigarette, the other spits out the shells of sunflower seeds, and they are sitting together like friends in the street. Suddenly an outburst, a song rings out, and dance springs into the air. The duo break into a percussive exchange, full of verve and humour, firing off questions and answers in the form of movements and songs. This meeting is enriched with a form of raw complicity, in which energy is compressed then released, and fierce explosions give way to silent episodes. Swirling song and dance grind against one another, experiment together and open up aspects of freedom in the course of the work. The taranto is a palo flamenco, a sparse unadorned song with no accompanying guitar, born from a need for direct expression. Thus with no sound other than voices, clapping and stamping, the two performers invite us into this conversation carried out by their bodies, in a gesture with irreverent force, like an outpouring that creates an urge to continue dancing.
