Since its foundation in Charleroi in 1980, Yuka Dance Academy has trained 5 generations of dancers, a rare level of continuity in the field of urban dance. Such is the raw material for this diptych designed to adapt to various settings.
Choreographed by Christopher “Baloo” Ntoutoume, TERRIL takes its inspiration from the heaps of mining waste that have turned into rewilded hills, their silhouettes marking the landscape around Charleroi. 9 bodies climb an invisible mountain in this hip hop opus constructed around the idea of land profile.
A group of 8 performers make up the PULSAR gravitational system. In it Xavier Mwaku orchestrates, around the nucleus of the house, a passage of the afro grammars that nourish the present-day Belgian scene.
2 works, for 2 closely connected questions. How does the contemporary urban body contain the memory of the place that shaped it ? How does collective pulsation make this body legible on the stage ?
