Once again succeeding in bringing together strong and complementing figures, Nina Santes calls upon a team of performer-singers to create a journey for wet voices in a moving choreographic landscape in which chant, breath and vocal pulsation draw inspiration from the secret eddies of our subterranean waters. Each in turn disseminates words, presents hypnotic dances, or slips off into the shadows to sustain a burgeoning chant. This collective becomes a fluid chorus, inventing movements in response and antidotes. With its water pockets suspended mid-air, its pop or chanting voices following on from one another, its texts murmured from surges of emotion, Wet Songs reminds us that we are all bodies of water, criss-crossed with fluid memories. By delving into the performers’ shared imaginations, the work brings out our “overflows”, portraying emotional surges and a possible future with powerful dreams of solidarity.
