Fall & Silence Everything is flexible
20mn length is permanent Divisions of space & time are flexible.
These are Merce Cunningham’s opening notes on Winterbranch (1964): a piece in which the task is simple and radical : falling and silence. Bodies falling in a muted tension, within a space that resists.
The choreographic material of this piece is distinctive, far removed from the recognizable triplets and curves; its movement that is entirely contemporary. This workshop explores that vocabulary: falling not as an accident but as a language. How to shift one’s center, seek adjustment, slow the collapse, support and be supported in this tumbling down, falling together. And then care for the clustering of bodies, for everyone’s comfort.
Until the whole group moves.
