Their ambition ? To create an inter-generational community dedicated to hip hop dance. In 2001, the composer Michael “Mikey J” Asante MBE and the choreographer Kenrick “H2O” Sandy MBE created the group Boy Blue in east London. Twenty-five years on, the company has established itself as a heavyweight, while continuing to explore aspects of hip hop on theatre stages. Cycles clearly demonstrates this. Nine dancers fire out the emblematic movements of hip hop dance in choreography marked by fascinating fluidity, highlighting the irresistible force of groove. Through harmonic unisons and solos that summon up the energy of battles, they illuminate the energy of hip hop while joyfully exploring the infinite possibilities of that style. On stage, their unique connection to the music unfolds in an unending motion that is at once distilled, resolute and uncompromising / unapologetic.
